What is Submandibular Gland?

Submandibular gland is a gland located in the lower jaw, above the muscle digatrik. Secretory production is a mixture of serous and mukous and into the mouth through ducts Wharton. Although smaller than the parotid gland, approximately 70% of saliva in the oral cavity is produced by these glands, the parotid 25%, 8% small mucous glands. During stimulates the secretion of the parotid gland produces saliva majority.

Submandibular gland is divided into superficial and deep lobes, which are separated by the mylohyoid muscle:

  • Shallow part is smaller portions. Mylohyoid muscle runs underneath.
  • The inside consists of a majority of the gland

Secretion submitted to Wharton on the superficial channels after they hook around the posterior edge of the mylohyoid muscle and proceed on the lateral surface of the superior. The line then crossed by the lingual nerve, and eventually flows into the sublingual caruncles on either side of the lingual frenulum along with the channels sublingual.

Submandibular gland, along with the parotid and sublingual glands, consisting of the major salivary glands. Minor salivary glands scattered throughout the upper aerodigestive tract, including the lip, oral mucosa, pharynx, and hard palate.

Submandibular gland is the second largest (approximate weight, 10 g) of the major salivary glands (parotid gland is the largest). Anatomically, it is located in the submandibular triangle of the neck.

Gland itself can be arbitrarily divided into superficial and deep lobes based relationship with mylohyoid muscles, superficial muscles lie the former, and the second wrap around the posterior aspect of the muscle. Gland itself is located on the hyoglossus muscle, superficial both hypoglossal and lingual nerves, the latter supplying parasympathetic innervation by chorda tympani nerve (from cranial nerve VII) and the submandibular ganglion. Duct of submandibular gland, also known as the Wharton duct, out of the glands in the lobes, passing the mouth floor, and opens near the lingual frenulum.

This gland is located adjacent to the mandibular corpus and have excretory duct (Wharton's duct) which boils down to basic oral cavity on tongue frenulum, behind the lower incisors

  • Are the glands that produce saliva most.
  • As well as the parotid gland, the gland is covered kapsel consisting of dense connective tissue that also goes into the organ and the organ split into several lobules.
  • This gland is morphologically gland tubuloalveolar / tubuloacinus branched (compound tubulo alveolar gland).
  • Branching duktusnya with parotid gland as well as cell-cell.
  • Sinus most elongated shape.
  • Between acini cells contained basal membrane cells basketball.
  • Boll duct: short, narrow and difficult to find in the preparations when compared to the parotid gland. Flattened and elongated cells.
  • Duct Pfluger: Pfluger longer than the parotid duct and showed a lot of branching so that the preparation is easier to find.
